SOCIAL SERVICE NAVIGATION
Taking on a holistic approach to providing community services, Roots Living Ministry has launched the Roots Community Support Initiative (RootsCSI), intended to compliment the services provided by the Roots Food Pantry.
We have created relationships with local social service organizations to exchange services and help the public access these resources, similarly to the network built to sustain the food pantry. Social service navigation works to help individuals find resources that are not always easily accessible and connect them to providers. This streamlines the process of receiving assistance, and removes the burden of navigating complex systems in times of need.
Our services are free, and offered in English or Spanish! While we do not directly service children (under 18), we do assist parents/gaurdians in obtaining social services for their children.
Spanish/English bilingual social service navigation includes, but is not limited to:
- welfare assistance
- emergency assistance
- employment/education
- immigration
- physical health
- mental health services
- rehabilitation/detox

MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is one of our nation’s greatest concerns. With diagnosis, hospitilazations, and overdoses at high rates, it’s important we work to address these needs. RootsCSI has parnted with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) NEPA to offer free mental health support group, classes, and presentations. Below is more information about the support groups offered by NAMI and RootsCSI. Check our calendar for upcoming classes in Monroe County, and visit naminepa.org for more information about NAMI.
Mental health needs are also addressed through advocacy. RootsCSI has mental health advocates for individuals and parents/gaurdians of children with mental health conditions in court, with providers, and schools. Advocacy for individuals are dealt case-by-case and requires an intake.
Another facet of advocacy is presentations. With NAMI NEPA, several mental heath presentations are offered. RootsCSI also offers a substance use disorder presentation. All presentations can be done in English and Spanish, and for a variety of groups (faith-based, professional, schools, community groups, etc.)
Peer support groups allow individuals to share their experiences and gain wisdom in a safe environment with other individuals who may share similar experiences. A safe environment within support groups is collaborative between group members and leaders on the principles of mutual respect and confidentiality. All support groups are lead by trained facilitators with lived experience.

Fortaleciendo Mujeres (Strengthening Women) is a faith-based mental health support group for women seeking support and camaraderie in Spanish.
Everyone Recovers is a support group for the various forms of recovery we experience. Whether it be drugs/alcohol, mental health, trauma, divorce, sickness or any afflication, many of us know the pain of life and are on a journey of recovery and moving forward. We welcome individuals and whole families who wish to gain perspective and heal together. Teenagers must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Everyone Recovers is also available in Spanish, Todos Nos Recuperamos.
NAMI Connection Recovery is a support group for adults with mental health conditions, regardless of diagnosis. Also available in Spanish, NAMI Conexión.
NAMI Family is a support group for (adult) family members of individuals with mental health conditions. Also available in Spanish, NAMI Para Familiares.
